Myotherapy can be highly beneficial during pregnancy and after childbirth. The body undergoes many changes during pregnancy, which can place extra strain on muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints. Many women also battle with aches and pains post partum, myotherapy techniques can be effective at reducing pain and discomfort.

What are the benefits of Myotherapy and Massage during pregnancy?

  1. Reduced Pain and Discomfort: Massage can alleviate common pregnancy related pains, including back pain, hip and pelvic discomfort, and leg cramps. Through the use of soft tissue techniques, massage helps to promote relaxation and ease pain and discomfort.

  2. Reduce Stress and Anxiety: The hormonal changes and physical challenges of pregnancy can lead to increased stress and anxiety. Massage therapy promotes relaxation, reducing stress hormones and increasing the production of serotonin and endorphins, which help decrease stress and anxiety.

  3. Better Sleep: Many pregnant women experience sleep disturbances. Massage can improve overall sleep quality and help with insomnia or disturbed sleep due to aches and pains.

  4. Preparation for Labor and Post Natal Recovery: Myotherapy can help keep the muscles in a more relaxed and optimal state during pregnancy, which can help with labour and post natal recoevery. During the post natal recovery period, the body is placed under more stress from feeding, nursing, and carrying your baby.

  5. Enhanced Lymphatic Drainage: Pregnancy can lead to fluid retention and swelling. Massage encourages lymphatic drainage, which helps to reduce edema and improve discomfort that fluid retention may cause.

What can I expect during my appointment?

I provide everything - massage table, freshly laundered linen and treatment equipment. An estimated space for the table set up is approx 2 x 3m. I will either leave the space while you get yourself on the table or I will stay with you and guide you every step of the way.

If you are booked for a 1 hour appointment, please allow 1.5 hours of your time. If you are booked for a 1.5 hour appointment, please allow up to 2 hours of your time. This allows me enough time to set up, discuss anything you would like addressed during treatment, the full treatment time, pack up and payment without feeling rushed. This also allows us to take our time in case we have any interruptions from any little ones at home.
