Below are some common questions that we receive:

What are the benefits for Myotherapy/Massage for people over the age of 65?

  1. Pain Relief: Regular massage can alleviate chronic pain conditions common among seniors, such as arthritis, back pain, and neck stiffness. Using a variety of soft tissue techniques, it can help to reduce muscle tightness, inflammation and promote relaxation, easing discomfort.

  2. Improved Circulation: Massage increases blood flow, which can help enhance circulation, deliver essential nutrients to muscles and tissues, and decrease the risk of blood clots. Improved circulation also assists in the recovery process from illness or injury.

  3. Enhanced Flexibility and Mobility: As people age, flexibility and range of motion often decline. Myotherapy helps stretch and loosen tight muscles, leading to improved mobility and a lower risk of falls, which is particularly crucial for older adults.

  4. Stress Reduction: Seniors may experience stress due to various factors, including health concerns or social isolation. Massage promotes relaxation through the release of endorphins and reduces levels of cortisol, alleviating stress and anxiety.

  5. Better Sleep Quality: Regular massages can contribute to improved sleep patterns. The relaxation induced by massage can help seniors fall asleep more easily and stay asleep longer, which is vital for overall health. Often people feel quite tired and relaxed after their treatment, having treatment at home means they can completely relax afterwards.

  6. Enhanced Mental Health: Massage has been shown to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, enhancing mood and overall mental well-being. The physical touch helps foster connections, which can be particularly beneficial for those who may feel isolated or are wanting more connection with others.

  7. Support for Chronic Conditions: For seniors managing chronic conditions such as Parkinson’s disease or dementia, massage therapy can provide symptomatic relief and improve their overall comfort. It may also stimulate neuroplasticity, which is beneficial in cognitive conditions.

  8. Social Interaction: Receiving massage in a therapeutic setting offers seniors the opportunity for socialisation, reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation.
